Lecture at the New Haven Museum

John Mills will be doing an in-person lecture at The New Haven Museum in New Haven, CT on November 9th, 2023 at 6pm ET.

This lecture will focus on the Colored troops of Connecticut during the Civil war…the Connecticut 29th and 30th Colored Regiments, as well as the 31st U.S. Colored Troops. We will dig into how they were formed, who the men were, what their experiences were and how we honor them today.

Other work to be discussed is the life and times of Nicholas Monroe, a Civil War veteran buried in the Wethersfield prison cemetery, as well as the narratives of Issac J. Hill and Alexander Newton. We will also discuss work being done celebrate the enslaved in the communities where they lived and worked, as well as to decolonize museums.
