Lecture for the Trumbull Historical Society

Criscuolo Park, New Haven, CT

On February 21st, 2024 at 7pm, John Mills will be giving an online lecture for the Trumbull Historical Society, discussing the men of the 29th Connecticut Colored Infantry Regiment.

The Militia Act of 1862 made it legal for African American men to enlist in any United States military or naval service, leading to the creation of Connecticut’s 29th Colored Infantry Regiment. During his presentation, Mills will delve into the lives and experiences of some of the men who enlisted in the 29th Rgt., explore the current understanding of them, and challenge how the nation recognizes their unique sacrifices today.

This will be a virtual lecture. A registration link has not yet been established. We will share it here once it is available.
